Tomasz Kodrzycki has a diverse practice, but with a particular focus on financial criminal law. He advises companies and their executives on – potential – issues of criminal law and other types of enforcement, such as administrative law sanctions. He has substantial trial experience, often in high profile and media sensitive (criminal) cases. He understands the need for discretion very well. Besides being a litigator, Tomasz also advises companies on their compliance programs and carries out internal investigations. Clients also regularly turn to him for advice and representation in human rights cases, including proceedings before the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).
Tomasz started his career in 2008 as a lawyer with the ECtHR in Strasbourg, where he analysed complaints against the Netherlands, drafted judgments and participated in the Court’s deliberations. In his fours years at the Court, Tomasz gained a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Court’s case law and inner workings. This proves valuable experience for his clients still today.
He was called to the Amsterdam bar in 2011. After finishing his Bar traineeship at Prakken d’Oliveira Human Rights Lawyers, a renowned firm in the field of international criminal law and human rights, Tomasz made the transition to the Amsterdam office of the American law firm Jones Day. There he specialised in financial criminal law, compliance and international trade sanctions, including trading in strategic (dual use) goods.
Tomasz is a member of the European Criminal Bar Association and its Human Rights Committee. He is also a member of the Legal Experts Advisory Panel of the London-based non-governmental organisation Fair Trials and a member of the Dutch Association for Young Defence Counsels (NVJSA). He is a long-standing editor of the Amsterdam Bar Association’s Bulletin.
Tomasz was born and partly raised in Poland and is a native speaker of Polish and Dutch. He knows Polish legal landscape well and regularly advises clients or represents them domestically or abroad in cases with a Polish connection.
He is also fluent in English and French.
Tomasz joined JahaeRaymakers in October 2017.
